America’s oldest Polish-American institution, the Orchard Lake Schools, welcomes all to partake in a merry Polish Christmas custom, at the Archdiocesan Shrine of St. John Paul II, on the grounds of our historic campus in Orchard Lake. All are welcome to come celebrate our anticipation of the Savior’s birth in traditional Polish style, as we altogether enjoy beautiful music and Polish hospitality.

The Chancellor’s Christmas Concert is a longstanding tradition, and this year, we’re proud to welcome the Collegium Cantorum Polonia Choir and the Chicago Nightingale Children’s and Youth Choir under the Direction of Mrs. Eliza Kasjan Gorecka & Dr. Arkadiusz Gorecki, with special guest, celebrated pianist Maralgua Darjaa. Deputy Consul General of the Republic of Poland Małgorzata Bąk-Guzik will be in attendance, as the joyous evening will begin with performances from musical ensembles from all the student bodies of the Orchard Lake Schools: the St. Mary’s Preparatory Jazz Band, the SS. Cyril & Methodius Seminary Choir, and the Fr. Józef Dąbrowski Polish Language School Children’s Choir. Following a brief intermission, our visiting choirs will conduct an unforgettable musical program in Polish, English, and Latin.

Maralgua Darjaa studied under Margarita Grigorieva while living in Ulaan Bator, Mongolia, and won a scholarship to study at the Frederic Chopin Music Academy in Warsaw, Poland with Dr. Kazimierz Gierzod before graduating with honors in 2004. After earning a Master of Arts degree at Northeastern Illinois University where she studied under Dr. Inna Faliks, she has been a highly-sought after performer in the Chicago-area.

Fire-roasted complimentary chestnuts and hot chocolate will nourish everyone at the entry to the Chapel of Our Lady of Orchard Lake beginning at 5:30 pm. The musical program in the chapel will begin at 6:00 pm. Following the performances, guests are welcome to our campus dining hall for a Christmas social hour, where all can enjoy handmade Polish traditional sweets like Kremówki Papieskie (cream cake), makowiec (poppyseed rolls), chruściki (angel wings), and Pierniki Toruńskie (Torun-style gingerbread), among others, all prepared by Executive Chef Emily. Handmade Klassics by Kurtis Polish Christmas Ornaments will be for sale, as well as campus-made maple syrup and other gifts.

On behalf of Orchard Lake Schools Chancellor Fr. Mirosław Król, Choir Directors Mrs. Eliza Kasjan Gorecka and Dr. Arkadiusz Gorecki, and the staff and faculty of the Orchard Lake Schools, all are welcome to celebrate this joyful occasion with us free of charge, in thanks for free-will donations made in the spirit of Christmas.
