An Open letter to Our Supporters

On behalf of the Polish Mission at the Orchard Lake Schools, we would like to thank you for your support during 2009. Your contributions make it possible for us to conserve and showcase the countless nineteenth and twentieth century art, artifacts, and rare books held in the campus museums and archives.

Since its inception in August 2008, The Polish Mission has undertaken the task of cataloging and conserving the collections. In May, 2009 we received a Michigan Humanities Council Grant to Commemorate Poland’s World War II Veterans and Displaced Persons using the campus resources. Our collaboration with the Polish Ministry of Culture included visits from the Deputy Director of the Biblioteka Narodowa. We also hosted a Jagiellonian University historian, who was also representing the Museum of Polish History in Warsaw. The Komski matching fundraiser launched in September, was a success. It allowed us to reframe and conserve the survivor artwork of Jan Komski and loan the collection for an exhibit sponsored by the Dearborn Symphony. These successes are only possible because of thoughtful contributions from people like you.

This year we will launch an online catalog and exhibits, host cultural events, celebrate Polish Heritage month with a genealogy seminar, and continue our alliance with universities and museums. As you know, the cost of the Polish Mission does not go away. We hope for your continued support in 2010.
