Cool Jazzy nights in Poland for OLSM

OLSM_PolandThe Polish Mission is proud to have joined forces in a  big way with OLSM (Orchard Lake St. Mary’s) Director of Bands Joshua James to arrange a comprehensive musical and cultural exchange program with  students of the renown Stanislawa Moniuszki National Academy of Music in Bielsko-Biala, Poland.  In addition to a rigorous music education program, our students will have the unprecedented honor of performing at the prestigious LOTOS Jazz Festival, also in Bielsko-Biala.

Thanks to the cooperative effort between The Polish Mission and OLSM, the Edward and Josephine Wikiera Foundation most generously donated a considerable amount to see our young men experience Poland for their first time, while at the same time maintaining a rigorous educational program.

St. Mary’s Jazz Band in Poland

The St. Mary’s Music Program has become an integral part of campus life here in Orchard Lake. What began as a humble after-school music ensemble has now blossomed into a full-fledged music program providing performance opportunities, studies in music technology and recording, and classes in music appreciation.  The St. Mary’s Jazz Ensemble has the premier ensemble for the school, performing at various festivals, colleges, and other notable events in various communities. In addition to performing at this year’s auction, the ensemble has been asked repeatedly to headline at the St. Pat’s Fall Fair, the Mercy High School Auction, and the Ambassadors Gala in the spring. (Our success has even lead to a partnership as the backing band for the Mercyaires, Mercy High School’s premier vocal ensemble.)

It is because of these successes, your dedication and support as a community, and by the grace of God that I am proud to announce that the St. Mary’s Jazz Ensemble has been invited to perform at the LOTOS Jazz Festival in Poland, February 24th to March 1st, 2015.  Thanks to the work of Polish Mission Director Marcin Chumiecki the Polish Mission network on both sides of the globe, the OLSM Jazz Ensenble was able sit at the negotiating table with the LOTOS Festival Director Jerzy Batycki and promoter Miroslaw Szklarski.  Though performing at one of Europe’s premier festivals would be a great achievement alone, Marcin and his colleagues in Poland were able to arrange a cultural/music exchange program at the prestigious Stanisława Moniuszki National Music Academy in Bielsko-Biala.  Thanks to the vision of Deputy Director Barbara Cybulska-Konsek there, our students will have a full series of exciting and rigorous academic musicianship while in Poland.  Our young musicians will stay at the Orle Gniazdo resort hotel in Szczyrk, and though they’ll be away from our campus, they’ll have plenty of time to keep up on their studies while away.  I’m very excited about this once-in-a-lifetime experience for our young men, and proud to work together with Marcin and the Polish Mission team to make it happen.
