Dateline: San Antonio

The Federation of Genealogical Societies (FGS) was organized in 1976, and represents hundreds of genealogical societies across the United States.  FGS links the genealogical community by helping genealogical societies strengthen and grow, providing helpful services and networking opportunities to many genealogical institutions.  As such, it was The Polish Mission’s special honor to attend FGS’ annual national conference!  This year, it was held in San Antonio, from Ausust 27-30.  Ceil, Hal, and our visiting Archivist from Poland Tomasz Szpil made the journey there thanks to the generous support of the Polish consulate of Los Angeles.  Many thanks to the consulate, and to Tomek for lending his expertise!  Our combined team delivered three lectures:  Polish Archives: Behind the Scenes; The Skansens of Poland; and Locating and Deciphering Catholic Sacramental Records. We had a special guest, Dr. T Lindsey Baker, presenting an additional lecture on the History of Silesians in Texas.
