The Polish Mission contributes to 2nd Polish Corps war memorial

MonteCassinoThe Polish Mission was honored to financially participate in the construction of a memorial remembering the 2nd Polish Corps in the Polish War Cemetery at Monte Cassino.

The official dedication of this site was on May 17, 2014, but the formal certificate recognizing our part in the process arrived just last week with a kind “thank you” from the Embassy of Poland in Rome and the Association of Poles in Italy.  Members formed an Executive Committee and established the project initially, bringing it all the way to the finished product.

According to an article about the memorial on the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Rome website, this monument will encourage the education of visitors about “the history of this unique army which was 2nd Polish Corps whose soldiers, liberated from the Siberian labor camps, became winners in one of the fiercest battles on the fronts of World War II.”

The battle of Monte Cassino opened the road to Rome — the Allies could not have continued to travel north in Italy without victory over the Axis.

We are the Polish Mission are so proud to have a small hand in this memorial and are commemorating the battle of Monte Cassino in our own way on September 7, 2014. We would truly appreciate your participation in this solemn celebration.
